More than twenty varieties of apples are harvested and sold at the Apple Barn ready for eating, pie-baking or cider-pressing. Kimmel is also home to one of the biggest cherry orchards in the tri-state area (Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri), and is renown for its pleasingly tart Montmorency variety of cherries that are particularly prized for pie baking. Tree ripened for freshness, Kimmel’s peach selections provide a juicy treat for visitors between the busy cherry and apple seasons. Peach varieties, available from late July to late August, include Red Haven, Crest Haven and Loring. Pick yours!
Richard and Laurine Kimmel believed in the land and in sharing what the land produced with their neighbors. Since 1925, apples and cherries, among other dozens of other fruits and vegetables have been produced in the rolling hills of southeast Nebraska.
The Orchard is dedicated to agricultural education research and historic preservation. It’s a destination for fresh, locally-grown produce and other home-grown Nebraska products. A trip to Kimmel Orchards is a fun, educational experience for the whole family—just as the Kimmel’s envisioned.
